Worship…with your life

1 And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
  -Romans 12:1-2

I love talking about churches, it is almost a hobby for me to look at different churches, see what they are doing, and then talk about it with basically anyone who is half-way interested. That is all fine and good, but talking about something and actually doing it are two different things. Just because I know all about what churches are doing, does not mean that I am involved in what is actually going on…

It is like saying, “next semester I am going to do some much better in school (or whatever stage of life you are in).” I will start working out… tomorrow. I will start eating better… tomorrow. Talking about doing something is easy. Actually doing it requires work and determination.

It is the same way in our relationship with Christ. We can talk about how we want to do this or that. We want to help others, we want to read our bibles more…. you know what I mean.

The problem with that mindset is that it rarely happens. You don’t do better the next semester, you don’t start exercising, and you don’t read your bible more.

I think it is because you don’t commit to doing it NOW.
Romans 12 says to offer your bodies as living sacrifices now, let God transform you today, not tomorrow. Don’t put off till tomorrow what you can do today.
Paul says that doing that is true worship.

It is easy to show up on Sunday, raise your hands and sing of God’s greatness and power and ability to change the world, then leave and forget it all till next week. Worship happens when we surrender, that requires action. It is giving ourselves to something bigger and greater. It is willingness to go outside the walls of the church building and actually BE THE CHURCH.

This is an area I have really been convicted about lately. Where is the action behind my life? Am I living as a sacrifice, or just laying on the alter like a dead thing??

God wants us to live life, love on other people, give to the poor, help the widows, and feed the orphans. Anyone can talk, few people actually do what they talk about…

So, is your worship dead on the alter, or is it living and active?? Are you being transformed into a new person, or are you sitting frozen in your seat?

I think it is a question worth asking. Every day.

Every day is a choice. You can choose to live, or you can choose to sit it out. Either way, you choose.

My prayer tonight is that I would use the hands I have to not only play my guitar and worship tomorrow, but I would take those same hands and use them the rest of the week.

Commit to living today. Don’t wait till tomorrow.
